If you are tired of serving the same old thing for dinner try this fun idea... have a salad bar night! Setting up a salad bar is a quick and cheap way to feed your family. And if you follow the helpful tips below you will find that making your salad bar is also very easy. But the best thing about salad bar night is that your family will really enjoy it. You may even catch your kids putting some once taboo vegetables on their plate! Your family might love salad bar night so much that it may soon become a weekly special in your home.

Step 1:  MAKE YOUR SHOPPING LIST -- Make a list of the items you want for your salad bar and go shopping. Try to buy a variety of vegetables so your family can make a festive salad. If you want a quick and easy salad bar shop for vegetables that are ready to eat like bags of mixed lettuce or bags of shredded carrots. If saving money is more important buy your vegetables whole and wash and cut them yourself. And don't forget the salad dressing!

Step 2:  SET UP YOUR SALAD BAR -- Set up your salad bar on your counter or on a card table or on a row of TV trays. You want salad bar night to feel special so set it up as though you are in a restaurant and don't just put all the items on the table. Put the vegetables in separate containers like at a real salad bar. If you want to make life extra easy, put each veggie in a plastic bag and just set all the bags on the table. Not only will this save you from doing dishes but when your dinner is over all you have to do is collect the bags and store them in the refrigerator!

Step 3:  LET THEM EAT -- Give each family member their own plate and let them serve themselves. Encourage your kids to try new vegetables by asking them to see how many colors they can put on their plate. Get them involved by asking them what items they'd like to try next time and put those items on the list! The more fun your kids have the more vegetables they will eat.

Step 4:  COMPLETE THE MEAL -- Turn your salad bar night into a complete meal by offering other items such as dinner rolls and a small cup of soup. You can also have meat in your salad bar such as chopped pieces of chicken or ham. You can even heat up a platter of chicken wings! And don't forget to serve some pieces of fresh fruit or berries with whipped cream for dessert. Want cookies instead? See my cookie articles below (you use store bought cookies... cheap and easy!). Whatever you serve your family will love it!
