How to Keep Your Purse Safe in a Shopping Cart

If you are like me, the first thing you do when you go shopping is grab a shopping cart and plop your big heavy purse on the seat where a child sits. Then you swear you will not leave the cart unattended for even a moment. Next thing you know you leave your cart and move just a few feet away to grab something. In just that split second your purse can be GONE! Here are some tricks I use to keep my purse from getting stolen.

Step 1:  GET A KEY CHAIN CLIP -- I have a clip on my key chain and I use it to clip the metal ring on my purse to one of the metal bars on the shopping cart. If someone were to try to grab it they would not get too far. Since I'm always right near my cart I can push it along without worrying about someone just grabbing it and running off.

Step 2:  LOCK IT WITH THE SEAT BELT -- Don't have a key chain clip? Slip the child seat belt through the strap of your purse and snap it shut! Once again, anyone who tries to grab your purse and run will be stopped by the seat belt.

Step 3:  TIE THE PURSE STRAP TO THE CART -- If you do not have a key chain clip and if the cart does not have a seat belt and if your purse has a fairly long strap you can always pass the strap around one of the posts of the shopping cart and try to tie it.

Step 4:  LEAVE YOUR PURSE CLOSED -- Even if your purse is tied to the shopping cart someone can easily grab your wallet if your purse is open or if your purse is easy to open. It's best to have a purse that zips shut. And it's best to never leave it alone, not even for a second.
