How to Save Money On Electricity

save money electricity

You grew up hearing it. You say it to your kids. You probably say it ten times a day... TURN OFF THE LIGHTS! But do you turn off the lights? Huh? There's a reason you say it. You say it because turning off the lights saves money! There are a lot of other ways to save money on your electric bill. And you probably know all the ways. But maybe, just maybe, you need to hear it again!

Step 1:  TURN OFF THE LIGHTS -- This has already been covered.  And you probably think you do a good job with this task. But do you really? Do you leave outside lights on all night? Do you leave a light on in the kitchen in case you get up during the night? Look around and see if you really are turning off the lights.

Step 2:  REPLACE LIGHT BULBS WITH ENERGY SAVING BULBS -- Yes, energy saving florescent bulbs are more expensive than the regular bulb. So look for coupons and buy them in bulk at your local Walmart. Walmart often has coupons right there with the bulbs! And there are many generic energy saving bulbs available now. So if you looked before and skipped by them due to the price, go shopping again!

Step 3:  HANG YOUR CLOTHES TO DRY -- Save money by not running the dryer. Hang your clothes to dry on a line! You don't have to do it outside. Put some hooks up on opposite walls in the kitchen, spare room, cellar... wherever! Then make some removable clothes lines by making loops on each end. Put the lines up when you need them.  Take them down when you don't! Hanging clothing to dry in your home is also a great way to humidify your home during the winter months... no more static when walking on the carpets! And hanging clothing is good exercise too!

Step 4:  UNPLUG APPLIANCES -- Get in the habit of unplugging everything you don't use, including your computer, TVs, toaster, blender, everything! If you think it takes too much time to unplug everything put things on a power strip then you have just one thing to unplug.
