eco friendly laundry detergent

Intro:  We may wish to use more eco-friendly products; however, too many of them can be prohibitively expensive.  You can make your own, though, and save the environment and money at the same time.  This particular laundry detergent uses Castille soap as its base.

Castille soap, unlike other soaps, is made from olive, hemp, coconut, and palm oils.  Most other soaps are made from either animal fat (tallow) or glycerine.  Castille soap, unlike other soaps, has no impact on the environment, making it a much better choice.  This laundry detergent, therefore, is eco-friendly and also will leave your clothes feeling soft and smelling fantastic.

Step 1:  Mix in a large bucket ½ cup liquid Castille soap, ½ cup washing soda, ½ cup borax, 3 teaspoons of essential oil of lavender, and 7½ quarts of hot water.  Still until the soda and borax are completely dissolved.

Step 2:  Pour the mixture into recycled detergent bottles and seal until needed.

Step 3:  Always shake well before using.  You need only about ¼ cup of this liquid for one load of laundry.

Tips:  You can always add other essential oils to change the smell.  Try lemon verbena, rose geranium, or eucalyptus.

Warning:  Essential oils are always more potent than an infusion of the herb from which they are derived.  Some people can experience an allergic reaction; therefore, it is always wise to test a small patch of skin before using any essential oils.

I've been hearing a lot of bad things about the chemicals used in dryer sheets, fabric softeners, and detergents lately...so good tips on making an eco-friendly detergent.
