Oatmeal Fudge No-Bake Cookies

My grandmother always made the best no-bake cookies every year at Christmas time. They were my favorite of her creations, and I looked forward to them each holiday season. I liked her infamous oatmeal fudge no-bakes so much that at 8 years old, I asked her for the recipe so I could make some myself. (This was highly unusual for me then… I didn’t cook at all.)

And, at 8 years old, it was easy enough to me to make them myself. So, with this article I would like to share with you how to make these simply delicious little morsels that has been a family tradition of mine since I can remember. You will find that the process is quick, easy, fun for kids, and just as fun to eat.

Grandma’s Oatmeal Fudge No-Bake Cookies

Ingredients:

-         2 cups sugar

-         ¼ lb. oleo/8 tbsp. butter

-         ½ cup of cocoa

-         ½ cup of milk

-         3 cups of oats

-         3 tbsp. of peanut butter

-         1 tsp. vanilla extract

Step 1:

First, place sugar, butter, cocoa, and milk in a medium sized sauce pan.

Step 2:

Boil and mix the ingredients for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 3:

After boiling for 3 minutes, add oats, peanut butter, and vanilla extract. Stir it all together until it is mixed thoroughly.

Step 4:

Once the ingredients are thoroughly mixed, remove mixture from heat, and use a teaspoon or tablespoon to spoon out the mixture onto wax paper or foil.

 Step 5:

Let the cookies cool for at least an hour or more until they are solid enough to remove from the cooling surface.

Step 6:

Enjoy this delicious treat in moderation, please!

 Tips:

I have found in my years of making this recipe that the cookies differ depending on the type of oats used. Instant oats tend to make a thicker mixture and thicker cookie, whereas rolled oats make a thinner, flatter cookie.

The taste isn’t much different, but the texture slightly differs. I also have found that I like to add things like coconut to the mixture, or use all natural dark cocoa instead of milk chocolate cocoa to form variations of the no-bake. You also may like to add more peanut butter to the mixture for more of a peanut butter fudge flavor.
