How to Hold an Open House on a House for Sale |

Contrary to popular belief, holding an open house on a house for sale usually does not yield many buyers. However, an open house can draw attention to your property as well as the attention of realtors. Even if your realtor will be hosting the open house for you, there are still some steps you may want to take to draw attention to your house while it’s for sale. First, plan which weekend, day and time (usually Sunday afternoons are best) you plan to hold your open house and advertise in your local newspaper or online at least a week in advance. Next, you’ll need to purchase your “Open House” signs. It is best that these look professional and clean. Tying balloons to the signs are also a good idea. Remember that you’ll need signs with arrows on them to direct prospective home buyers to your open house. Next, make sure your house is ready to be viewed. Clean up any clutter, all that should be out is furniture and appliances. Pictures of you and your family should be put away for the open house. Buyers want to see themselves in the home, not remnants of you and your family. Finally, don’t crowd prospective home buyers on the day of your open house. If you are holding it yourself, only have one or two adult family members present. If the realtor is hosting for you, leave the house for a few hours to let buyers view the house with no pressure. Good luck!
