You can make unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry from an old, broken or unwanted skateboard. Skateboards are usually made from multiple layers of natural or colored wood. The top layer of skateboards often have colorful interesting designs. This tutorial will explain how to take an old, post consumer skateboard and recycle it into beautiful art jewelry.

Step 1: Draw your design on the skateboard. Cut the skateboard with a saw to create a piece the size of the charm (or charms) you need. You can cut a square, a circle, a heart or any other shape you want.

Step 2. Drill a hole in the top of the charm.

Step 3. Sand the charm you cut from the skateboard until it is quite smooth and fitting to wear as jewelry. Decorate the charm, if desired, by affixing decals, stickers or painting on the charm. If you like the look of the charm as is, then skip the decoration step.

Step 4. Once you are pleased with the look of the charm and any decorative paint is dry, seal the wood with a non-toxic, eco-friendly clear gloss. Allow the sealant to dry.

Step 5. Add the findings by inserting them through the drilled hole. If you are creating a pendant or key chain, then you are done once you have added the pendant or key chain finding. If you are creating earrings, repeat the process to create a matching earring .
