how to care for orchidsOrchids are beautiful, graceful and almost have a magical appearance when looking at their brilliant colors.

1 Orchids need plenty of light so when you place one in your home place the flower near an east or south facing window. In the winter a southern facing window for sun exposure to the plant would be ideal.

2 A good indoor temperature for cattleyas would be 70 daytime and 60 at night. A good indoor temperature for phalaenopsis and Vanda orchids is a day time temperature of 80 and 65 at night.

3 To have healthy orchids it’s best to keep humidity between 50-70% in the home. You can use a humidifier in the room nearby where you have your orchid. You can use a spray bottle to mist your plant early and daily with distilled water.

4 Water your orchid once about every 7-10 days and feed your orchid with a liquid fertilizer half distilled water and half liquid fertilizer. The best time to fertilize is during the summer months. Add fertilizer the same day you water your orchid but first water the plant then add mixture of distilled water and fertilizer to avoid burning the roots.

5  When your orchid begins to bud and form and flowers form place your orchid near a cool windowsill and check the temperature for a 60-70 degree reading and this will make your blossoms last longer.

As you can see having and maintaining an orchid in your home can be a task of love for a person who loves indoor flowers.
