Most people when something causes that person to bleed the blood will try to stop its self from flowing by clotting. Now some people when they bleed their blood don’t want to clot so well and that person is what is called a free bleeder. The topic of this article is how to treat someone that is bleeding severely.

Have the person sit or lie down and then elevate the injured limb higher than the heart unless the bleeding limb is broken then apply a pressure dressing.

Apply a clean sterile pad or cloth directly on the spot that blood is flowing and apply pressure and wrap with a gauze wrap.

After bleeding is controlled by direct pressure check for a pulse to ensure blood is still flowing.

If bleeding is not controlled by direct pressure may have to apply a tourniquet as a last resort.

Watch the patient for symptoms of shock and if needed elevate the lower part of the body slightly higher than the head to prevent shock.
