How to Bake a Chocolate Applesauce Cake |

For all you chocolate lovers here is a new twist to the plain chocolate cake. The applesauce and spices gives this cake a whole different taste, texture and sweetness to it. And you know that there is still your treasured chocolate taste hidden inside. Things You'll Need: 1/2 cup shortening, 2 cups flour, 2 cups sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, 2 tablespoons cocoa, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon allspice, 1 1/2 cups applesauce, 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 3/4 cups dates, 3/4 cups raisins, 3/4 cups nuts Instructions: Step 1: In a small bowl mix 1/2 cups of nuts and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and set aside. This is the topping for the cake. Step 2: In a large bowl mix all the other ingredients together but leave the raisinsand dates for last. Once the batter is mixed thoroughly fold in the dates and nuts. Step 3: Preheat the oven to 350'. Grease and flour a tube pan or bundt pan. Step 4: Pour batter into prepared pan and gently pour topping mixture over batter. Step 5: Bake in oven for 55 to 60 minutes. Make sure center of cake is cooked through. Step 6: Remove cake pan from oven and let cool for 20 minutes. Then remove cake from baking pan and place on cooling rack.
