For all you chocolate lovers here is a new twist to the plain chocolate cake. The applesauce and spices gives this cake a whole different taste, texture and sweetness to it. And you know that there is still your treasured chocolate taste hidden inside.
Things You'll Need:
1/2 cup shortening, 2 cups flour, 2 cups sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, 2 tablespoons cocoa, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon allspice, 1 1/2 cups applesauce, 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 3/4 cups dates, 3/4 cups raisins, 3/4 cups nuts
In a small bowl mix 1/2 cups of nuts and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and set aside. This is the topping for the cake.
In a large bowl mix all the other ingredients together but leave the raisinsand dates for last. Once the batter is mixed thoroughly fold in the dates and nuts.
Preheat the oven to 350'. Grease and flour a tube pan or bundt pan.
Pour batter into prepared pan and gently pour topping mixture over batter.
Bake in oven for 55 to 60 minutes. Make sure center of cake is cooked through.
Remove cake pan from oven and let cool for 20 minutes. Then remove cake from baking pan and place on cooling rack. When cake is completely cool place on Tupperware cake taker, platter or cake dish. Enjoy!
