How To Plan For A Tropical Storm

In other parts of the world this storm is called a cyclone or a typhoon. No matter what part of the world or country you live this ocean storm always usually brings destruction to homes and business and leaves behind torn and battered lives. This article may help you are someone in your family to prepare and plan for the next hurricane warning.

Step 1-Put a plan in writing and include a list of evacuation steps and important phone numbers. Give a copy of your written plan to all family members.

Step 2-On your list of plans you need to know how to protect your property like knowing how to turn off the gas, water, and electricity. You also need plan on securing yard items, reinforcing doors, preparing windows, or anything else that may be blown away or broken in high winds.

Step 3-In your evacuation plan you need all the information about the nearby shelters in your area especially if someone in your family has special needs. If you have any health issues take a copy of your health records and enough medications to last a week. Take bottled water, canned food, can opener, extra clothing, bedding, cash, cell phone, toilet paper and hygiene items, and special items for babies or disabled family member. Have a road map to all the nearby shelters in case you have to take an alternate route or destination. Remember always to leave early in an evacuation to allow time for heavy traffic and bad weather conditions.

Step 4-Have an out of town relative that everyone can call if they are separated from other family members. Call this you’re out of town communication link.

Step 5-Have a battery operated radio for information and updates on the storm.

Step 6-Have a full tank of gas in your car or truck and a few extra cans of fuel for later use.

Step 7-Your pets need to have an emergency supply kit with food, Water, medical records and medication. You need to have a list of kennels or pet hotels where you could leave your pet or a list of motels, hotels, or family inns that allow pets.

Warnings- If you live along the cost in a mobile home, apartment or residential home you need to evacuate before a hurricane warning or when a hurricane warning is issued.
