Step 1 Stress is known to cause a flare up with psoriasis. Be sure to try and avoid it. Exercise often to release natural hormones that fight stress. Step 2 Use creams and moisturizers to moisten the skin. There are some available over the counter, or you can talk to your doctor. Step 3 Get some sun. Sunlight has been shown to minimize the effects of an outbreak. Also, UVB or brief exposures to ultraviolet light such as ultraviolet B light have been shown to help. Step 4 Avoid alcohol intake. It can cause a skin irritation and flare up by dehydrating the body. Step 5 Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Step 6 Visit your physician and check into taking Vitamin D, corticosteroids, and retinoids. Step 7 If you find something causes a flare up, avoid it.
