detroit skylineĀ If you have recently lost your job in Michigan file for unemployment benefits as soon as possible so your benefits are not delayed. Follow these steps to file for unemployment benefits in the state of Michigan.

To file for unemployment benefits in Michigan you must:

A. Have been employed by at least one, but not more than 19, Michigan employers during the last 18 months.

B. Did not file an unemployment claim against another state during the past 12 months.

C. Did not work under more than one social security number during the past 18 months.

D. You must file by telephone if you do not know your employer's mailing address.

Go to the secure website https://bwuc-claims.state.mi.us/mipilot/claim/index.asp to file the unemployment claim.

Have the following information ready before you file your claim:

A. Social Security Number

B. Your driver's license or state ID number

C. Bank Routing Transit Number and your Account Number if selecting Direct Deposit for your benefit payments

D. If you are not a citizen or national of the United States, you will need your Alien Registration Number and the expiration date of your work authorization

E.Previous 18 months employment information including names, addresses, and phone numbers of where you worked.

Start at the beginning of the website and fill out all the required fields. Press the TAB key to move to the next field. When you are finished click the proceed button. You will get a confirmation code at the end of filing for unemployment online. You now have completed filing an unemployment claim in Michigan.
