Purchasing bait at a bait shop can be rather expensive. You can save your money and make or find your own. This article will explain how to do this.

Dough bait can be made with Wheaties, flour, and water. First make a very thick gooey dough with your water and flour. Smash up your Wheaties and add it to the dough bait. Keep your mixture thick and then set it aside so that it will harden a bit like glue. You can then make smaller balls from this larger one.

Finding bait in your backyard can be like a treasure hunt for your children. Look for worms after a rain. Worms usually come to the surface. You can also find them early in the morning hours. If it hasn't rained in awhile, look under old boards and bricks. They usually find moisture under those items.

You then need to build a worm holder or box. Put top soil and compost into it. The worms will always move to the bottom away from the surface. They prefer the cool moisture. You can mix in some coffee grounds to help keep the worms healthy.

You can also use a Butterfly net to catch grasshoppers, grubs, insects and butterflies. These insects are colorful and very active, when they are in the water. You need to keep insects in a fly house. You can't put them with the worms. It is also important to keep them fresh and lively. Keep them in a cool place and away from water. Some moisture is good, but too much is bad.

Once you have all the bait you want, you need to help children putting bait on their hooks. It is easy for a child to do some harmful damage to their finders and hands. It is good to have an adult work with a small child.

So save your money and make or find your own fishing bait. Besides, your children will have fun doing it.
