First if you own a steamer this is the easiest way to get the job done. You may be able to rent a steamer from a local rental store. If you don't own a steamer and don't want to rent one, there are other easy techniques to removing your wallpaper boarders. You can use just a spray bottle and water. Make sure the water you use in your spray bottle is very warm. You also may use a large sponge and a bucket of warm water. Steam, spray or sponge completely over the wallpaper boarder. Let the warm water work it's way into the paper. Once you have soaked the boarder and let stand for about five minutes. Use a around a six inch broad knife or putty knife and begin to scrape at the edge of the boarder. The paper should actually start coming off pretty easily. If not steam, spray or sponge a little more. The paper will come off and leave a paste on the wall. Scrape as much paste off the wall as possible with your broad knife. Then use a sponge and warm water to wipe down the paste. You may have to change the water often so you don't leave any paste residue which may distort any repainting. Good luck!

... Good article. I better solution to wallpaper is waltex. Waltex has vynal in it to make it last longer and easier to take down. They come down in whole sheets. However waltex is hard to find and expensive. Removing wallpaper is also healthier as mold can be hidden behind wallpaper and/or waltex. |
