How to use Bentwood to make a Flower Garden Trellis

Making a trellis, out of Bentwood, is very easy to do. You can even connect them together to make cathedral type arches. You can then use these Bentwood Trellis in your flower garden or for decoration along slit rail fences or even a picket fence. This article will explain how to make these Bentwood Trellis.

You can find this material for your trellis in just about any place. Your only main concern is that you don't get something like poison ivy or oak. Bentwood looks like a vine that grows around trees in the forest. They can also be young saplings that are growing near water ditches or along roadways. Use a sharp knife and cut off all branches and leaves that are growing on them. The key is "if it bends it will work."

To make your Bentwood Trellis, you will need two long pieces of equal size. They need to have at least a three foot space between the two. Take your first piece and very slowly bend it over. You want to hold it this way for a few minutes. Take your second piece and do the same. Now with your first piece, bend it over again and start wrapping the top part around the top one third of the other piece. Take the second piece and do the same. Wrap it around your first piece.

This may require the help of another individual. Each works with the other, as they twist the Bentwood around each other. If you have some trouble keeping the Bentwood wrapped around, you can use some plastic garbage bag pull through straps. After a few weeks, you can cut them off. You can also use fine wire , too.

Now you can place your trellis at the back of your flower garden or between two gate fence posts. The more rustic looking they are, the better. I have seen these used between posts on a deck. Pots of flowers are then placed behind them. If you place your trellis at the back of a garden, you can plant Rose bushes in front of them. You may have to secure the trellis at the bottom, by connecting it to a post or fence.
