Intro: Joomla is the most popular content management system, although it needs a lot of customization to look how you want it to. Follow these steps to change a Joomla website favicon.  Step 1: You must create a favicon. To make a favicon, you should choose an image to make as your favicon. The best favicon images are usually square. There are many websites that will have free favicons for you to choose from but they may not represent your websites colors or logo.  Step 2: Once you have an image saved, you should find a favicon generator online. You can upload your image to the favicon generator website to create the perfect 16 by 16 square favicon for your website.  Step 3: When you save the favicon that the website generates, it should be saved as favicon.ico  Step 4: Now that you have you favicon, you will need to access the html files for your Joomla website. The folder which has the favicon is in the template folder.  Step 5: The generic Joomla template is called “rhuk_milkyway,” For example if this is the template you are using, you should go to public_htmltemplatesrhuk_milkyway and in this folder you will see a file named “favicon.” You can either delete this file and then upload your favicon or upload your favicon (saved under the same name) so it will overwrite the file.  Step 6: You favicon will show up on your Joomla website often within a few minutes, although it may take an hour or two.  Tips: You should use Photoshop to shrink your photo down to a smaller square before using the favicon generator to make it a 16 by 16 size.  To have a transparent background, save your favicon as a PNG in Photoshop before uploading it to a favicon generator.  Warnings: Sometimes your favicon won’t look nice and smooth. You may need a high-def image of your own to make it smooth looking.
