How to Save Money on Energy Costs

Intro: With the economy continuing to worsen, it is important to save money any way you can. Follow these steps to save money on energy costs.

 

Step 1: Turn off everything you can. Computers, TV, Lights, unplug any extra things you do not use everyday, like extra DVD players, clocks and appliances.

 

Step 2: Check the Filter on your furnace and air conditioner. Block or clogged filters can cause the furnace and air conditioner to overwork.

 

Step 3: South, East and West windows let in a lot for sun and heat. So cover them in summer months and open the blinds in winter.

 

Step 4: To save money on energy costs, close the fireplace damper when not in use to save heat loss.

 

Step 5: Use the sleep or hibernate on your computers if you do not shut down the system.

 

Step 6: To save money on energy costs, use the lid when cooking or microwave.

 

Step 7: Turn you heat down in the winter and wear warm clothes and vise versus in the summer.

 

Step 8: Use extra blankets at night and turn the thermostat down.

 

Step 9: To save money on energy costs, in the summer use a fan even with the AC and set the thermostat to a higher temperature.

 

Step 10: Take short showers, instead of baths.

 

Step 11: Do only full loads in the washer or dishwasher.

 

Step 12: To save money on energy costs, wash your clothes in cold water with the new cold water detergents.

 

Step 13: Turn the temperature down on your hot water heater to warm.

 

Step 14: Close the vents and doors to unused rooms.

 

Step 15: Seal any small leaks in the windows or foundation of the house.

 

Step 16: Insulate the attic.

 

Step 17: When you replace your appliances, purchase only energy saver appliances.

 

Step 18: To save money on energy costs, if you have single pane windows, think about replacing them.

 

Step 19: Turn the thermostat down when you go to work or out for the evening.

 

Step 20: Add a small area heater to the room you are in and keep the thermostat down for the rest of the house.

 

Step 21: To save money on energy costs, plant a tree with leaves, in the south, east and west side of the house. The sun still comes in the winter and the tree blocks the summer sun. You can also use evergreens as a wind block in big open areas.
