Intro: When animating a movie clip you will need a working installation of Flash and basic knowledge of the program. Follow these steps to animate a flash movie clip. Step 1: To animate a flash movie clip, you must first create a drawing on your stage, which is the large white rectangle where all your content will go. You can also draw inside an empty symbol. Step 2: After you finish the drawing, you should convert it to a symbol. You can do this by clicking “Insert” then “Convert to Symbol.” From this point, you should select “Movie Clip.” Step 3: To animate a flash movie clip, you will need to double click the symbol to edit it. This will bring you to the symbols timeline; you’ll see your artwork in color and the main stage in grey. Step 4: Use the frame-by-frame animation, shape tweens, and motion tweens to animate the symbol. The clip can either cycle or stop at the end. To have the clip stop at the end, insert an ActionScripted stop on the last frame. Step 5: To animate a flash movie clip, you should click on the name of the main scene once you are finished animating. From here, you will notice that the clip is within only 1 frame on your main stage. Movie clips can be put inside each other. These movie clips can have their own animation timelines. Tips: To animate a flash movie clip, you must create a drawing first and then turn it into a symbol.
