How to Apply to College

Intro: Applying for college can be a big moment. Not getting into the college you want can be a painful experience. Follow these steps to apply for college.

Step 1: Start determining the factors which are most important to you in a college. Do you want a large college or university where there will be thousands and thousands of students you don’t know? Do you want a small college where you will know everybody there?

Step 2: What major are you planning on getting? You should start looking at schools which have strong reputable programs in that field. Usually when you are getting close to graduating college, you will start receiving college brochures in the mail. They will often contain a free application to their school.

Step 3: Visit the websites of possible colleges and schedule a campus visit. Seeing the environment that you will be going to college in will be helpful in making your decision.

Step 4: Determine which school is your primary choice. You should also have at least 2 back up schools in case you don’t get into your first choice school. You should apply to all of theses colleges.

Step 5: If you didn’t receive an application in the mail from any one of the colleges you are applying to then you will have to go to their website and fill out an online application. If they have mailed you an application, you can fill that out and mail it back to them.

Step 6: After some time, you will get a letter in the mail which hopefully says “Congratulations!”

Tips: You may be accepted on the terms that you must provide your final transcripts to the college. In this case, you will have to go to your high school office and ask them to mail a copy of your transcripts to college asking for them.

Don’t get stressed when waiting for your application approval. You should know by your ACT/SAT score and your GPA if you are a shoe-in or a long shot to get accepted.
