Intro: There are many ways to save money and cut costs while traveling. Hotel bills are usually the number one expense on a trip and saving money on them is very beneficial. Follow these steps to save money on hotels.  Step 1: To save money on hotels, plan your trip awhile ahead of time. Fighting over the last few vacant rooms of a popular hotel is not the way to get a good deal. Do your research and plan early on to get a good deal on a hotel.  Step 2: Visit an online travel planning website, such as Travelocity or Expedia. The websites will let you look at flight pricing, hotel prices, car rental prices, vacation packages, and more.  Step 3: Search through hotels in the area you are planning on visiting. You can find many different hotels, read reviews, and find out specific details about many hotels at the websites listed in Step 2.  Step 4: To save money on hotels, you should not just book the room online but call them first. Ask them about Triple A discounts, AARP discount, and etc. Call the hotels and ask them what price a room would be at the times you want it. Checking pricing online versus the pricing they give you over the phone will help you choose the better deal.  Step 5: To save money on hotels, you could get a travel guide book which shows you what hotels each city has. Call the hotels in the book to find out what prices they have, since not all hotels will be listed online at Expedia and Travelocity.  Tips: To save money on hotels, factor in continental breakfast’s (free breakfast), free parking, and etc.  A hotel may be more expensive but after all the freebies, it may end up being cheaper.  Warnings: Always ask about the hotels cancellation policy. If you get there and absolutely hate the hotel, can you get your money back and go somewhere else?
