Intro: If you are planning to leave on vacation or just want to feel safer while in your home, follow these steps to burglarproof your home.  Step 1: Look all doors and windows. If your windows are old and don’t have locks, it may be time to get some new windows. Put pieces of wood or broomsticks in sliding glass windows and doors to help secure them. Always dead bolt the door; most home invasions occur with burglars breaking in the front door.  Step 2: Keep a list of the item in your house with the serial numbers and copies of them. Also, keep receipts from everything you buy. If you do get robbed, you will have enough evidence to prove to your insurance company that you owned some valuable items.  Step 3: Burglarproof your home by installing an alarm system. There are many home alarm systems which you can install easily. You could also hire a company to install an alarm for you. Companies like Brinks home security will alert the police if your alarm goes off.  Step 4: Keep all valuables in a large safe which they won’t be able to move. Bolt the safe to the floor so they don’t just carry the safe away.  Step 5: Get a guard dog. There are many family friendly dogs that will love you dearly but will bark and attack intruders.  Step 6: Don’t leave spare keys lying around outside. Keys hidden in fake rocks and under plants are easy to find.  Step 7: Have a neighbor park their car in your driveway when you are gone so it looks like someone is home.  Step 8: Install electric timers on the television and lights in your house. Have the television and living room lights turn on for a few hours every night while you are away. This will surely keep burglars away.  Tips: Try installing security cameras.  Install a motion detecting porch light which turns on if a burglar is approaching the front door.  Try buying a door safe system which reinforces the door frame.  Let your friends and family members know you are leaving and ask them to check up on your house once a day.
