How to De-ice Your Windshield

Intro: Every winter we all experience frost and ice on our windshield. Sometimes the ice is so thick it is nearly impossible to get off. Follow these steps and suggestions to de-ice your windshield.

Step 1: If you have a remote start, you should remember to leave the heat defroster on full blast when exiting the car. The next day you can remote start your car and after a few minutes the windshield should be de-iced.

Step 2: Spray your windshield with a de-icing solution after you get home from work or park your car for the night. You can purchase some of this solution or you can try and make your own at home. Many people claim that an equal mixture of vinegar and water will do the trick.

Step 3: Use an ice scraper to scrape the ice from your windshield. This requires some manual labor but is the fastest way to clear a windshield.

Step 4: Park your car facing east. When the sun rises it will help prevent ice from forming on your windshield. This may not work completely but it will usually help.

Step 5: Try using room temperature water to de-ice your windshield. You don’t want to use hot water which could crack your windshield or cold water which will cause more ice build up. Luke warm water should quickly remove the ice from you windshield.

Tips: If all else fails, you will have to do the dirty work and scrape off the windshield with a window scraper.
