make friends at college

Intro: When first entering college, you may not know a single person or you might have a few friends attending the school with you. Either case, you can heighten your college experience by making new friends. Follow these steps to make friends at college.

Step 1: People like friendly, outgoing, and nice people. A person with these characteristics would have no problems saying “hello” to the person seated next to them and starting a pleasant conversation. The classroom is probably the best place to make friends at college.

Step 2: The most obvious place to make friends at college is your dorm room (if you live in one). If you go away to school then you will most likely have a dorm room for at least your first year. You get to meet your roommates and hang out with them a lot. Your roommates are the first people you should start to bond with at college.

Step 3: Participate in dorm activities. There are social events, game nights, and etc. where the whole purpose is for everyone in the dorm to get to know each other better. It is often easy to make friends at these events because the people who go are generally social people.

Step 4: In college, you will experience many classes which have group projects. A group project usually consists of 4-6 people who have to meet outside of class multiple times. This is a great opportunity to network with new people and make new friends.

Step 5: When meeting new people, always be nice and try to avoid complaining, gossiping, or talking bad about someone else. These are not the ways to make friends.

Step 6: To make friends at college, you should think about joining a fraternity or sorority. These groups are full of people wanting to be social and wanting to make friends.

Step 7: As you start to meet new friends, find out their interests, and then try to put together an intramural sports team based on what sports your new friends like. Participating in team events can help bring you closer to your teammates.

Tips: To make friends at college, you should show up early for class to give yourself some time to meet people in the class.

To meet friends, throw a party and invite everyone you’ve met so far.

Making 5-10 really close friends is often better than having 50 pretty good friends.

Warnings: Making friends at college can be tough. You need to be very social and not be locked away in your room.
