How to Change a Fuel Filter

Intro: Improve performance and gas mileage by simply switching to a new fuel filter. Follow these steps to change a fuel filter and save money on gas.

Step 1: Locate the fuel filter on your automobile. It is located near the gas tank.

Step 2: If you cannot get to the fuel filter you will have to raise the vehicle, pop the hood, and disconnect the negative post on the battery.

Step 3: Release the gas pressure on your vehicle. Do this by removing the gas cap to the gas tank.

Step 4: You must loosen the filter holder. Use your tools to loosen the filter and remove it. You may have to loosen the fuel line to remove it.

Step 5: If you haven’t already, loosen the fuel line. You may have to undo some clips and use a wrench to loosen the fuel line. You need to remember how it looks before taking it apart. You will need to install the new filter the same way the old one was installed.

Step 6: Replace the old filter with the new fuel filter. You should tighten your fuel lines back up and tighten the filter. Put your gas tank cap back on and everything should be great.

Tips: When dealing with automotive repairs and replacing a fuel filter always consult with a professional mechanic.

Remember to put your gas cap back on.

Warnings: Don’t smoke or light any matches when replacing your fuel filter.
