How to Make Moonshine

Intro: Moonshine is homemade alcohol which initially became popular during prohibition. Producing moonshine in the United States is illegal and this article is for informative purposes only.

Step 1: Gather your ingredients and equipment. You will need 100 pounds of sugar, 100 gallons of water, 6 ounces of yeast, charcoal, and 25 pounds of cornmeal. You will also need a large pressure cooker, a coiled copper pipe, and a few large pots.

Step 2: Boil water on your stove and add this water to the cornmeal. This concoction is mash.

Step 3: Wait until this mash is cooled down and only warm to the touch and then add your sugar and yeast.

Step 4: Let the mash ferment for 4 to 5 days or as long as necessary for the mash to stop bubbling.

Step 5: Your new mixture is known as sour mash. Put your sour mash into your pressure cooker and bring it up to 173 degrees Fahrenheit. The alcohol content will rise to the surface.

Step 6: Use your coiled copper pipe, which must be passed through cold water, to trap vaporized alcohol in a separate vessel. Vapors pass through the cold copper and condense into moonshine.

Filter your newly created moonshine through charcoal to make it fit for drinking.

Tips: Don’t try to make moonshine.

Warnings: Making moonshine is illegal.

Improperly distilling moonshine can make you sick.
