How to Play Beer Pong

Intro: Beer pong is a very simple drinking game which is often played with 4 people and with a variety of different rules. This game has become the game of choice among younger people, especially college students. Follow these steps to play beer pong.

Step 1: Choose teams. You can play one on one but beer pong is typically a 2 on 2 game.

Step 2: Now that you are in teams, get a beer pong table. You can use any table which is at least 6 feet in length. An official beer pong table should be 8-9 feet long but 6 feet should be adequate.

Step 3: Get Solo cups or some other brand of plastic cups. Solo cups are the cup of choice for beer pong players. You will fill each Solo cup with some beer. There is a line on the inside of the cup which is usually the standard fill to line. Typically, it will take 2 beers to fill ten Solo cups. You can use a little more or a little less; it all depends on how much you’d like to drink. Each team will have 10 cups.

Step 4: Now that you have your beer in the Solo cups, you will need to arrange them in a triangle shape at each end of the table. Each team will make a bowling pin like line up at their end of the table.

Step 5: You will need two ping pong balls to play beer pong.

Step 6: Flip a coin to see who goes first. If there was a winner from the previous beer pong game, then the winner decides who will go first. The winner of each game keeps playing until beaten.

Step 7: One team will start with both ping pong balls. One member will throw their ball first and then the second will throw theirs. If you make the ping pong ball in your opponent’s cup, they have to pull that cup off of the table and immediately chug down the beer inside. You and your teammate will take turns drinking the beer. For example, if you lose the game you and your partner would have drank 5 cups each. The first person to clear all of their opponent’s cups wins the game of beer pong.

Step 8: The basic rules of beer pong are: If both teammates make a ball in a cup, on the same turn, then they get to immediately shoot again. If you shoot a bounce shot and it goes in, your opponents will have to pull and drink two cups, although they can swat the ball away after you bounce it. You cannot swat the ball away if your opponent doesn’t bounce it.

Step 9: Now that you know how to play basic beer pong, you can use a variety of rules to liven the game up. Usually, the “house” rules will always apply. Make sure you understand the rules that the owners of the house or apartment play by. If it is your house, then you set the rules. One rule which is important to find out is if you shouuld pull the cup as soon as a ball goes in it or do you leave it until both teammates have shot at it. If you leave it, then your opponents could make two balls in one cup which means you have to pull three cups! If you don’t leave it, then they can’t put two balls in the same cup. Always ask about the rules first so there will be no arguments. Good luck!

Tips: The best beer pong players don’t throw the ball hard; they shoot a nice arch shot.

Beer can be spilt easily in beer pong; keep a towel or two handy for spills.

Keep a cup full of water nearby to wash off the balls if they hit the ground.

Always have back up ping pong balls, they tend to get lost.

Warnings: Beer pong can cause people to consume a lot of beer quickly, so be careful.

Never drink and drive.
