How to Make a Mojito

Intro: The mojito has become hugely popular in the United States even though it was originally a traditional Cuban cocktail. Follow these simple steps to make your own mojitos at home

Step 1: Gather your ingredients. You will need fresh mint, limes, club soda, clear rum, and pure granulate sugar to make simple syrup.

Step 2: Make some simple syrup. Put equal parts of water and sugar into a pot. Cook this mixture on high (do not boil!), while stirring, until it dissolves.

Step 3: Cut one lime into slices. You will be using one lime per drink.

Step 4: Get a muddler because you will have to blend the lime and mint flavors together. Once you have your muddler, you will need to muddle three lime slices, two or three mint leaves, and a little sugar in the bottom of your glass or cocktail shaker.

Step 5: Add approximately 2 tablespoons of the simple syrup you made earlier.

Step 6: Add 2 shots of rum.

Step 7: Stir and shake your mojito mixture until completely blended and then fill the remainder of your glass with soda water and ice.

Step 8: Garnish your mojito with a lime wedge or a mint sprig, or both. Then enjoy!

Tips: Use cubed ice, not crushed.

Try to use spearmint rather than peppermint.

If you don’t have a muddler, try using the back of a spoon.

Warnings: Don’t drink and drive.

Mojitos can be strong, consume them in moderation.
