Intro: Many herbal supplements can help you lose weight for a short time period but some can help you lose weight over a long time period. Follow these steps and suggestions to choose an herbal weight loss supplement that will help you continue to lose weight over the long term.  Step 1: Try eating soy foods and soy protein. Soy foods can help lower cholesterol and fat. If you substitute soy protein for meat, you can lose weight. If you eat soy and meats, the weight loss with be little. Soy products are great for menstrual problems, sweating, and aches and pains.  Step 2: Try guarana to lose weight. Although there are some side effects and downsides of guarana, it can help you lose weight. Guarana contains a lot of caffeine and can cause your heart to beat faster. This energy boost can help you burn more calories and can provide you with some short term weight loss. This is why guarana is in most weight loss supplements. The side effects of this herb can be shaking, small tremors, and an urge to urinate.  Step 3: Most weight loss pills contain St. John’s wort which attempts to control mood swings. It is also known to help with depression but research has a hard time proving that theory. Don’t take St. John’s wort if you are on birth control.  Step 4: Aloe is an herbal weight loss supplement which is taken orally. This herb will provide short term weight loss because it causes you to have more bowel movements. This is not a good long term weight loss solution.  Step 5: Ephedra is a popular ingredient in a lot of weight loss supplements. This ingredient has a ton of side effects and it not safe. It does not provide long term weight lose either. Some of the side effects can be high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes. Do not take an herbal weight loss supplement which contains ephedra.  Step 6: Green tea and black tea: Tea is great for a lot of reasons. It can help with headaches, cancer, tooth decay, and a long list of other complications although there isn’t much research to back up the theory that it helps with losing weight.  Step 7: Avoid cascara which will cause you to have a lot of bowel movements. You will lose a lot of weight at first but not long term. It will cause you to become dehydrated very quickly.  Step 8: Try glucomannan. Glucomannan should not be taken if you have diabetes or are prone to hypoglycemia. This herb is known to help with constipation and obesity. This herb supposedly delays absorption of sugar from the intestines. Research done on glucomannan has yet to prove it works but has proven that it can alter your metabolism. Take this herb with caution.  Tips: Herbal supplements seem to provide some people with positive results although there is little scientific research that supports any herbal weight loss supplement.  Always speak with your doctor before undertaking a new diet or herbal weight loss supplement. Some herbs actually do work.  Warnings: Do not continue to use any herb for an extended period of time.
