How to Correct Bad Posture

Intro: Do you have a sore back? Crouch over a lot? People tend to sit for long periods of time, especially hunched over the computer. Our bodies start to naturally fall into bad posture. Follow these steps to correct bad posture.

Step 1: You should always consult with a doctor first to see what they recommend as a course of action.

Step 2: You need to stretch. Stand with your back to the wall and try to get your lower back to touch the wall at the same time as your middle back. You want your spine and back to line up straight and flat against the wall. With enough time your lower and middle back will line up. Stretch your back and hips thoroughly everyday.

Step 3: Strengthen your back muscles. You can use dumbbells to do back work outs. Look up some shoulder exercises online. Exercises such as the bent-over row and cambered bar lying row will work the correct muscles. You can also work out your abs, hamstrings, and butt muscles to help correct bad posture.

Step 4: When sitting in a chair, try to sit up straight without hunching over. Hold your shoulders back when sitting or working on the computer. Get a lumbar support cushion to help your spine align and help you sit correctly.

Step 5: If your bad posture continues, try seeing a chiropractor or your family doctor. You may have a strained or pulled muscle in your back that needs professional attention.

Tips: Keep reminding yourself to sit up straight when at work.

Do daily stretches.

Warnings: If you have severe pains when doing stretches then you may have more issues than just bad posture. Check with your doctor.
