How to Choose a Personal Trainer

Intro: Thinking of getting a person trainer to help whip you back into shape? Well follow these steps to choose a personal trainer which is best for you.

Step 1: Every trainer should have some form of certification. There a ton of different certification programs and some are better than others. A few of the better ones are NSCA, ACSM, ACE, and NASM. There are more than that but those are just some of the most common certifications.

Step 2: Your trainer should be perfectly ok with meeting you and giving you a free consultation. You should always meet up with your trainer to see if you like the person and to find out how many times they want you to work out with them a week. Find out how intense the trainer is. Most trainers just make their trainees work out so hard that they give up after one or two sessions. Great trainers will make work outs simple, quick, fun, and more intense as you start to get in good shape.

Step 3: Ask for some testimonials or references so you can find out more about how previous or current trainees feel about your potential trainer. Never commit to your trainer for a few months or a year without having a few work out sessions with him.

Step 4: Agree on some reasonable price for training. Any price the trainer gives you is typically negotiable. Some trainers starting out can be only 20 dollars a session while some more experienced ones can be upwards of 100 dollar a session. After you select a personal trainer, try to stick with them until you feel you can stick to an exercise plan without their help.

Tips: Make sure your personal trainer has an up-to-date certification.

If the trainer never answers his phone or misses appointments then you may want to find a new one.

Warnings: You will usually be sore the next day after your first work out. The only way to get rid of this soreness is to take a day off and then hit the weights or treadmill again the next day.
