How to Do Background Searches From Home

Intro: The internet has given people the ability to investigative and research the background of virtually anyone. Employers run background checks on potential hires all the time. If you have gotten into a bit of trouble in the past you may want to be able to see your own background check. Whether or not you want to do a background search on yourself, your friends, or family members, here’s how.

Step 1: Check the Department of Correction (DOC). The DOC has a database with every known offender in it. You can see if they have been in prison in the past or are in prison as of right now. After you check the DOC, check the sex offender registry also.

Step 2: Google their name. You can usually find a few things out about a person if you Google their name. Try Googling their name in parenthesis and with the word arrest or offense next to their name. You may just find some disturbing news about your friend or co-worker. If they are clean you can try one last thing.

Step 3: Find the public records for the area the person you are doing a background search on lives in. Offender records are usually public information and doing searches for this information can help you find more out about someone’s background.

Step 4: Finally, if nothing is working, you can pay a background search company to do the work for you. They will often give you a very detailed report which can be very helpful. The only downfall is this can be a bit pricey. If you can’t find anything then your friend or co-worker must just be clean!

Tips: Don’t confront your friend or co-worker about something you found. Although it is public record, your friend may not be proud of what happened in the past.

Don’t start spreading rumors around the office or to your group of friends about what you found online.

Warnings: Make sure you have found the correct information. There are many people with the same name in our world.
