Intro: On January 18, 2010 the United States will honor Martin Luther King Jr. There are many ways to spend your own day. Here are some steps and suggestions on how to spend your Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

 

Step 1: You should celebrate!

 

Step 2: Attend Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta which is hosting its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day service.

 

Step 3: Attend the National Civic Rights Museum in downtown Memphis. They often offer musical performances throughout the weekend.

 

Step 4: Visit the Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. Last year they offered free admission and a wonderful art exhibit called “Civil Rights: 50 Year Reflection.”

 

How to Spend Your Martin Luther King Jr. Day Step 5: Do some research on the internet and find some of Martin Luther King Jr.’s old speeches or news article to read about. Educating yourself on his goals and plans for the future is great way to honor him.

 

Tips: Enjoy the day off and think about how far we have come as a nation.
