Intro: Learn how to make your very own Christmas sugar cookies for the Holiday’s. Follow these simple steps to baking fresh cookies for your next family get together.
Step 1: Gather your ingredients. You will need ½ cup of softened butter, ½ teaspoon almond extract, ½ cup shortening, 2 and ½ cups of flour, 1 and ½ cups powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon cream of tartar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
Step 2: To make Christmas cookies, mix your butter and shortening, with a mixer in a mixing bowl, for about 2 minutes. Add your powdered sugar and beat for an additional 2 minutes.
Step 3: Beat the egg a little bit before adding it to the mixture. In addition to adding the egg, add the vanilla and almond extract. To make the best Christmas cookies, beat all of these ingredients until the mixture is fluffy
Step 4: In another bowl, mix all of the remaining dry ingredients and add them to the wet, fluffy ingredients. Mix on a low speed until well blended. Your dough should now be well blended.
Step 5: Divide your dough in half and mold each half into a flattened circle. Wrap each half in plastic and stick them in the fridge for at least a half hour. Some people even refrigerate their dough overnight. To make the best tasting Christmas cookies you should allow adequate cooling time.
Step 6: Remove your dough from the fridge, let it sit ten minutes, and then place your dough on a lightly floured surface. Use your floured rolling pin to roll out the dough from the center to an inch from the edge. Roll the top then bottom and repeat until the dough is about 1/8 to ¼ inch thick.
Step 7: To make Christmas cookies, dip your cookie cutter in some flour and then start cutting out some Christmas cookie shapes. Be careful when removing your cookie shapes from the dough, they will tear easily. You can reroll the access cookie dough and make more cookies.
Step 8: Line your cookie sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it. Place your Christmas cookies on the cookie sheet and make sure you space them out at least an inch from each other. Bake your cookies at 375 degrees F for around 7-8 minutes.
Tips: Once you remove your cookies from the oven you should place them on a cooling rack.
You can decorate your Christmas cookies any way you want. Try adding sprinkles and/or frosting to your Christmas cookies.
Warnings: Be careful when removing your cookies from the oven they will be hot!
Do not roll out your cookies too thin or they will break easily and will be very crispy.
