Intro: Looking for a place to rent can be a very difficult and stressful task, especially if you are moving somewhere you are unfamiliar with. You don’t want to get ripped off or end up in a bad neighborhood. Follow these steps to apartment hunt the smart way.
Step 1: You will have to do a lot of research before selecting an apartment. Check out a few websites which offer reviews of various apartments and comparisons in rent and amenities. Apartmentguide.com is a popular website which can be very useful during your apartment hunt.
Step 2: Find the apartment that best fits your needs. Choosing the cheapest apartment is usually a bad idea. There is usually a reason for why an apartment seems too inexpensive.
Step 3: When apartment hunting, contact the police department in the area to find more out about crime rates. If you have to decide between a few apartments you like, the crime rates can usually help you make that final decision.
Step 4: Schedule to see a tour of the apartment complex or complex’s you are most interested in. Make sure the inside and outside of the complex are nice and well kept. Drive around and get a look at the surrounding area also. Meet some of the workers of the apartment and see if they are nice accommodating people.
Step 5: Visit all of the apartments on your list. Weigh the pros and cons of each and make a smart decision.
Tips: Most apartment complexes will waive the application fee if you ask them to.
Try to get them to reduce the amount of the deposit and find out if it is refundable or not.
