How to Celebrate Mardi Gras

Intro: Mardi Gras is the day before Ash Wednesday and is commonly referred to as Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras is not nationally observed in the United States but a number of regions have notable celebrations. Follow these steps and suggestions to celebrate Mardi Gras.

Step 1: Make beads and masks. Masks and beads are all commonly worn at Mardi Gras celebrations. Whether you are attending a party or are celebrating at home, beads and masks are a must. Your masks and beads should be purple, green, and gold. These are the 3 popular colors associated with Mardi Gras.

Step 2: Go to a parade. There are usually local parades to celebrate the occasion but if they don’t have any where you live then you may have to travel a ways to find one.

Step 3: Throw a party. You can throw your own Mardi Gras party and decorate your house. Decorations usually include streamers, Christmas lights, confetti, and even a piñata. Keep in mind you should stick to the three colors associated with Mardi Gras when decorating; green, purple, and gold.

Step 4: Go to a party. Many people host Mardi Gras parties and it is a lot easier than trying to set up your own party.

Step 5: Go to the heart of Mardi Gras; New Orleans! New Orleans has the biggest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States. If you enjoy partying, parades, and the most elaborate costumes then you need to book a trip to New Orleans.

Tips: Beads and a mask are all you really need to attend a Mardi Gras party.

Warnings: Don’t drink and drive when consuming alcohol.

Make sure you know what you are getting in to when visiting Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It can be one outrageous and out of control party.
