Intro: Learning to study properly can save you hours of frustrations and help you get the grade point average that you are capable of. Follow these simple steps to learn how to study effectively.  Step 1: Understand that school is a full-time job. Whether you are in college, high school, middle school, or elementary school you need to learn to manage your time effectively. You should have a certain portion of every night devoted to studying and that time to study should be your number one priority.  Step 2: If you get involved in the classroom discussion then studying will be easier. Studying will just reinforce the concepts you were discussing in class. If you fall asleep in class or don’t pay attention, you will go to study it will be like learning it for the first time. You will have to study longer and harder.  Step 3: To help keep yourself attentive in the classroom, you should take notes. Notes are a great way to go back and refresh your memory of the topics you went over in class. Don’t write down everything your teacher or professor says. Jot down the most important points and try to be so involved in the classroom discussion that you won’t even have time to write down everything.  Step 4: Ask questions in class. If you are ever confused on any topic, most teachers will be perfectly happy making it more clear for you. Typically if you are confused, other students are confused also and they are too shy or embarrassed to ask. Therefore classmates and teachers will often be happy when you ask questions.  Step 5: When preparing for an exam or quiz you should go through the chapters in the book that will be covered on the test. In addition to your book, you should skim through your notes and make sure you understand every topic covered.  Step 6: Find out what kind of tests your instructor gives. If it is a multiple choice exam, most of the questions may cover the vocabulary for the chapters covered. In this case, you should use flashcards to ensure complete understanding of all terms. Most textbook websites offer online flash cards which make studying the terms quick and easy. If the test is an essay test, you should practice explaining the concepts to a friend, family member, or out loud to yourself.  Step 7: After you take the first test, you should have a much better idea of the types of tests your teacher gives. If possible, ask for a previous years test before you have to take your first test. Getting a sense of the questions your teacher will ask on their tests can help you study more effectively.  Tips: Don’t give up! Anyone is capable of good grades. Just get involved and put at least an hour a night towards studying.  Warnings: Don’t cram a bunch of information into your head at the last second. You will not remember this information very long term.
