How to Tie a Tie

Intro: Learn not only how to tie a tie but learn how to tie the Windsor Knot. The Windsor Knot is one of the thicker ways to tie a tie. Windsor knots are typically seen as a projection of confidence. On job interviews, applicants should always try to project an image of confidence and tying your tie in a Windsor Knot can help.

Step 1: Select the tie of your choice and find a mirror to help your tie tying process.

Step 2: The wider end of the tie should be on the left side and about 10-12 inches lower than the narrow end. Taller people will need to make the wider end a little bit longer and shorter people should make the wider end a little bit less long. Now cross the wide end over the narrow end.

Step 3: Take the wide end, pull it up towards your face, put it through the loop which has been created between your collar and your tie, and pull it back down.

Step 4: Take hold of the wide end and from the right side wrap it around behind the narrow end and then pull it back through the loop. The wide end will now be backwards.

Step 5: Now wrap the wide end around the front of the knot.

Step 6: For a third time, pull the wide end through the loop.

Step 7: Pull the wide end underneath the first layer on the knot in the front.

Step 8: Now pull the wide end down to tighten the knot and pull down on the smaller end to slide the knot up to your collar. After some practice you will become a pro at tying your tie in a Windsor Knot.

Tips: Your tie should be long enough to touch your belt when standing up.

Warnings: You may have to re-tie your tie until you get the correct length.
